Neo-Traditional Tattoos

Neo-Traditional Tattoos

Neo-Traditional tattoos adhere to some of the traditional tattoo rules, but they take it a step further.  While traditional tattoos only have one line weight, and limited color, neo-traditional tattoos have varied, or multiple line weights, and have no limitation on color or color blends.  They are still illustrative, but tend to be more realistic and detailed tattoo designs.  Back in the 90s, the first neo-traditional styles was called new-school, which broke away from generic American Traditional type designs as tattoo artists started to develop their own unique styles which echoed illustration, graffiti and cartooning.  My educational background is animation, so I love drawing 90s new school tattoos.  These days, the most popular neo-traditional styles are heavily influenced by art nouveau and art deco art styles.
